April 2024

On 22 April 2024, the time had finally come: the Mundus College school camp from Amsterdam was about to start again. The bus was waiting in the car park, loaded with enthusiastic children and teachers who could not wait for a week full of adventures. This year, teachers Jos and Bart were also present again; it felt like coming home to them, and their presence brought a good atmosphere to the whole group. Some students were also there for the second time, and could not wait to experience another Randolph camp. It was impressive to see how the group, consisting of children from different backgrounds, developed such a positive dynamic with each other, the students and the teachers. This close bond created a good energy that stayed the rest of the camp. It soon became clear that this camp was going to be a special experience for everyone.

We started with the Olympic day, an event where the children were divided into teams. Each team came up with a cool yell and made a flag on which everyone unleashed their creativity. The flags were colourful and unique, and the enthusiasm splashed off. On the second day, the oh-so-famous rodeo bull came out, and despite the rain, everyone enthusiastically gathered around the bull to throw each other off as quickly as possible. To compensate for the rain showers, we went to the snack bar for an afternoon. This also proved to be one of the highlights of the week.

Every night we ended with big gala dinners and boogy discos where everyone had a lot of fun with each other and with the leaders. In the beginning, everyone had to settle in a bit, but as soon as one girl stole the show as a DJ, everyone was at the front dancing. We even saw one of the kids do ‘the worm’ several times. All in all, it was a week to remember and everyone left the Vierhouten grounds beaming. We are already looking forward to the next camp and cannot wait to make it a great week with the children, teachers and leadership.

All the best, Katrien van Meeuwen
